Welcome to Why I WAH

When I was thinking of an appropriate name for my blog, I decided on Why I WAH for the simple reason that I'm not only trying to be successful at working from home, but I want to help others do the same. It is not always easy to work from home no matter what anyone says. You have to have the drive and dedication to getting the job finished. Many times you will not have a boss breathing down your neck to finish an assignment. So, you also have to think about why you want to WAH, as well, and hold that close to give you the perseverance to work at it.

College Students Get Mini-Internships at MindSumo (or Professionals Can Become Mentors)

Today’s blog is an interesting company that I came across during a web search.  This opportunity is only for college students (sadly enough), but I think it’s a great opportunity.  It’s called Mindsumo, and what they do is have companies post up problems or challenges that need solutions.  College students provide said solutions, and earn prizes if their solutions are picked or some resume information even if they do not win.  There is also a reward system, but you need an account to learn more about it.  As of today’s posting, there are 11 challenges active on the website, but the FAQ notes that they usually have new challenges added weekly.  There is also a mentor program that could be very beneficial.  Not a college student?  Check out the mentoring opportunity here.  Even professionals can help build their resume using this site.

Pros:

  • Excellent opportunity for resume building for college students as these challenges are viewed as mini-internships
  • Mentoring opportunities
  • Often several winners and runners up can be selected
  • Be involved with votes for winners
  • PayPal payment
  • Rewards are immediately awarded to winners’ Mindsumo account when announced
  • Cash out requests processed every business day with cash being deposited within 1-2 days
  • Bonus career tools, such as job postings and other information on finding a job after graduation

Cons:

  • Must have a valid university email address
  • Payment threshold of $100

Overall, this is a great website for college students looking to get some extra dough and exposure to real-world problems.  Often, students may worry that what they are learning in the classroom won’t transfer to the real world, and this gives them an opportunity to see some of the things that they can be exposed to in real life.  It can also be a good way for someone more experienced to offer some advice and help to college students.
