Welcome to Why I WAH

When I was thinking of an appropriate name for my blog, I decided on Why I WAH for the simple reason that I'm not only trying to be successful at working from home, but I want to help others do the same. It is not always easy to work from home no matter what anyone says. You have to have the drive and dedication to getting the job finished. Many times you will not have a boss breathing down your neck to finish an assignment. So, you also have to think about why you want to WAH, as well, and hold that close to give you the perseverance to work at it.

Direct Interactions

Today’s post is about a call center, but it’s not your normal call center.  This is one position where you are not going to be giving sales pitches, but where your customer service skills will be put to the test.  Direct Interactions has an opening for a Call Center Representative for Parking Information and Enforcement.  Yes, you will be speaking to individuals with unpaid parking tickets and assisting people with questions on parking meters.  Are you the type of person that can remain calm and cool when speaking to someone that isn’t having the best day?  Do you take pride in being able to help others make the best of a situation?  This might be a great opportunity for you.
As a representative, you will be handling both inbound and outbound calls.  You must have your diploma or GED, along with some experience working in a call center, pass a background check, have a computer, DSL or Cable Internet, corded phone and phone line, Internet security installed, communication skills, stress tolerance, professional and able to multi-task.  They have 24/7 operations, so scheduling should not be too much of a problem.  They do require at least thirty hours of availability Monday through Thursday due to that being the busiest time of the week.  They offer paid training at $9.35, which then goes up to $10.00 once you start working.  If you happen to have language skills outside of just English, they also offer a higher pay rate for bilingual representatives.

Pros –

  • Not sales calls
  • Paid training
  • Very open availability with 24/7 work flow

Cons –

  • May deal with upset individuals
  • Requires prior experience in call centers and stressful call centers (i.e. Collections)
  • Specific equipment needed – cord phone, computer and so on
  • No additional information given in the ad about when payment are made, how they are made or any benefits

This could be a great opportunity for someone that thrives in a challenging environment and is not interested in doing sale calls.  This could be very interesting work with everyday posing new challenges.
