It can be hard to find a good work/life balance when you start working WAH positions. Unlike a traditional workplace there are plenty of distractions at home to occupy your attention if you let them. You sit down at your computer ready to start your search or begin an assignment and all you can think of are the dishes in the sink or the laundry that is sitting on the stairs needing to be done. So, you decide that you'll get to work after your take care of some household chores. Then your family or friends decide that they need you desperately for this or that, so you give in and help out. This can be fine as long as you finally do sit down and get your work done, but it can be so easy to continue getting sidetracked. Trying to find the perfect balance can be very difficult.
This is especially true for those positions that give you the freedom to complete your work at your own pace without a schedule. Taking too much time away from your personal life to continue working can be just as detrimental to your wellbeing as well as not giving yourself enough working time to accomplish what you need. Trying to find the perfect medium between the two may be hard at first, but eventually you should be able to get into a proper rhythm that allows you to accomplish your work goals without neglecting your life outside of work. Making a schedule for you to stick with can really make a difference between success and failure in your work life and personal life as well. This can be as easy as writing out a to-do list every day, using an online calendar to track what needs to be done, or post it notes. My personal favorite is using the sticky notes that are a program with Windows 7.
