There are a wide variety of positions available in the WAH world that you can consider to work. One big distinction for me is phone jobs versus non-phone jobs. You have to examine your own personal situation to determine if you are able to tackle both of these types of positions. In my case I have two very vocal dogs and a young family which does not allow me the time and the quiet to work phone positions. So, when I started my searches for WAH opportunities I bookmarked any that I came across that I might be able to look into at a later date, perhaps when my children finally go to kindergarten.
There are other aspects that you should keep in mind when considering if an opportunity is right for you. Carefully evaluate the opportunity and weight it against your current life, such as are you able to work a position that will have scheduled hours. It is not wise to accept a position that you will be unable to carry out. All that does is cause stress on behalf of you and the company that believes you can deliver. So, before you begin your journey into finding the WAH opportunities that work for you sit down and plan out what you can and cannot do when it comes to issues that are faced because of the unique aspects of working at home.
A good way to start your search in WAH is to take the time to jot down all the different skills that you possess. Of course, you understand what skills you have, but it can be easier to apply them to your job search if they are labeled out. For instance, if you are familiar with Windows 7 and XP note both of these systems on your list. At times we have more skills than we realize that we can use to market ourselves. Examine what your strengths are and things that you might need to work on more. Always be prepared to learn new things by taking free or low cost classes. Not only is our computer a great resource for these types of materials to help you improve, but your local library is another great source that you can utilize for free.
