Welcome to Why I WAH

When I was thinking of an appropriate name for my blog, I decided on Why I WAH for the simple reason that I'm not only trying to be successful at working from home, but I want to help others do the same. It is not always easy to work from home no matter what anyone says. You have to have the drive and dedication to getting the job finished. Many times you will not have a boss breathing down your neck to finish an assignment. So, you also have to think about why you want to WAH, as well, and hold that close to give you the perseverance to work at it.

Turn Your Card / Coin / Sports / Collection Hobby into Dollars – Cardboard Connection

One of the completely brilliant things about WAH opportunities is that there are so many out there that can fit into your hobby niche.  I’ve made a tidy sum writing freelance for some companies about gardening, which happens to be one of my favorite hobbies.  The same can be true for you.

I found a great website that is hiring content writers for their sports cards/entertainment cards/collections business.  They have full-time and part-time positions open.  Love Baseball Cards?  Are you the go-to numismatist (coin collector) on your block?  Do you love auctions for sport and coin collectibles?  Is your collection of trading cards growing by the moment?  If you find any of the above is true, you might want to check out Cardboard Connection.  Typical compensation for part-time writers is $20 to $30 and it looks as though full-time writers might be considered a salaried position based on a variety of factors, such as experience, amount of hours put in and the position itself.  The job application is pretty short in that it asks about your knowledge of this field, your writing experience, and for a short sample of your writing.

Pros:

  • Hobby writing can be fun
  • Knowledge can already be built-in
  • Article price for part-time work is better than many content mills that only pay a few dollars an article
  • Writing direct for a company rather than though a content mill

Cons:

  • Must have some knowledge or be willing to learn
  • Writing skills necessary
  • No length requirements listed to help determine payment per word for part-time
  • No specific financial information listed for full-time

Overall, I think that Cardboard Connection would be a great WAH opportunity for someone with this hobby, especially someone just starting out with freelance writing.  Some more experienced freelancers might find the amount per article a little too low for the part-time positions, but it still might be a good side job to get paid to write about something you love.

Worried about your writing skills, never fear as tomorrow’s blog will be full of places to help you improve your writing skills.
