Welcome to Why I WAH

When I was thinking of an appropriate name for my blog, I decided on Why I WAH for the simple reason that I'm not only trying to be successful at working from home, but I want to help others do the same. It is not always easy to work from home no matter what anyone says. You have to have the drive and dedication to getting the job finished. Many times you will not have a boss breathing down your neck to finish an assignment. So, you also have to think about why you want to WAH, as well, and hold that close to give you the perseverance to work at it.

American Express Customer Care Professional - Work at Home Position

Yes, you read the title right, American Express hires work at home professionals as do other big name companies looking to cut down on their overhead costs.  Now, I have found a great deal of information on this, but there are some areas that are missing from my search.  I don’t want to delay sharing this opportunity while I wait to maybe hear back from about details that are missing.  I’m waiting on several companies to get back to me, so I’ll give you what I have found.  From the job posting, it does appear that you would be an actual employee (not an independent contractor meaning taxes and the like will be withheld from your check) with paid training.  This is for a part-time position.  The ad notes that the average pay is $16.13 per hour, but top employees can make $28.00 per hour.  This is with the hourly rate and incentive pay.  Benefits are also available through the company.  They do require you to obtain your own equipment, but unlike other phone jobs that I have found they actually pay or reimburse for the phone line and internet (there is a note that this is only for business uses, so your personal accounts would need to be separate).  This seems to be to ensure that your system will meet the standards that they have for their equipment.  They are only looking for workers in certain states (sorry International readers) and the list can be found here.  At the top of the job ad page, you will find a link that states email me for similar jobs, which may be good to do in case this job isn’t quite right for you right now, but might be a good fit later on.  They do require four years of experience in customer service or a four year degree.  This is a fixed schedule job with workers getting from 20 to 30 hours a week, and they do require weekend work availability.  Shifts are for a 24/7 environment, so scheduling can be during any shift with most starting around 2 or 6 p.m. Eastern time.

Pros –
  • Employee rather than freelancer
  • Good pay
  • Incentives
  • Reimbursement for phone and internet costs
  • Benefits available
  • Part time positions available
  • Regular shifts

Cons –

  • Set schedule
  • Requires certain technology and service requirements
  • Lengthy application process
  • No information on how or when payment is made

Overall, this is an excellent opportunity to work with a well-known company and earn a great paycheck.  Although there are a few missing areas of information, this is still an excellent phone opportunity to look into.  Hit the link and no job showing up?  It’s possible that it expired as it was posted on 1/21/2014, but doing a search for “Home Based” should bring up any openings that they have.
