I always love posting about how a person can utilize their
strengths and personal knowledge into a way to make money. Today’s post is exactly what I mean. Some people do struggle with mental illness,
and there are services out there that can help.
just one of these services.) Sometimes
just being able to speak about your experiences and help others can be just as
helpful to you. An
anthology through Theshitastrophy.com is seeking submissions from authors,
and unlike some other anthologies this requires two submissions. One will focus on a dark time in your life where
you had to deal with mental illness, and the second will be a funny story about
your life. It’s meant to show the
positives and negatives that can exist in life, especially for those that are
dealing with mental illness. Submissions
for the first should be about 1,500 to 1,800 words, and the second should be
about 1,200 to 1,400 words. You will
have to submit both for inclusion to the anthology. The submissions need to be in before the
deadline of August 30, 2014. Payment
will be $100 for both stories ($50 each), and possible royalties. Payment is made upon final edit. Authors are expected to select a local
charity that has ties to mental health to be highlighted in the book, and to
donate a small percentage of their royalties to pay it forward (they are
capping it at a maximum of 10%).
Pros-
- Use personal experience
- Writing can be cathartic
- Help others
- Short-term project
- Spot-light local charity
Cons-
- Only a one-time thing
- No guarantee of being accepted
I
think that this would be an excellent opportunity for someone to express
themselves, and I highly encourage my readers to take a look at the detailed
requirements on the website to learn more.
Be sure to follow the directions carefully (such as deadline, how to
submit and length). I’d love to hear
from anyone that is thinking of submitting, and I’m more than willing to act as
someone you can bounce your stories off of before submitting.
