Welcome to Why I WAH

When I was thinking of an appropriate name for my blog, I decided on Why I WAH for the simple reason that I'm not only trying to be successful at working from home, but I want to help others do the same. It is not always easy to work from home no matter what anyone says. You have to have the drive and dedication to getting the job finished. Many times you will not have a boss breathing down your neck to finish an assignment. So, you also have to think about why you want to WAH, as well, and hold that close to give you the perseverance to work at it.

Rent Survey Conductor - Pierce-Eislen®

This is an interesting opening for Pierce-Eislen® and occurs yearly.  The surveying begins on May 5th, so get your resume in soon!  They hire people to call about apartments to get information about rent prices, specials they offer, and other information.  These calls will be made in a mystery shopper type of way where you identify yourself as a potential renter rather than a surveyor.  If you are interested in this be sure that you have a computer with high speed Internet and the ability to make long distance calls.  They identify that you would be a temporary employee, which leads me to believe that this is a W-2 job rather than an independent contractor position.   They promise a person will make at least the local minimum wage for where you live, but it breaks down to about $6.00 an hour, .60 for completed surveys, .20 for partially completed surveys, and .10 for surveys that were unable to be completed due to the phone not being answered or an answering machine picking up.  There is an assessment that you need to take to be considered for this position.  If hired, you are required to do a minimum of 60 surveys in the first week, and then 80 surveys over the next five weeks.  The time of these calls will be based on the time zone of the area being called with the range being 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.  So, for instance, if you live in the Eastern Time zone and are calling in the Pacific Time zone or vice versa, it would be important to determine what time you will be making the calls.  There are some websites like WorldTimeBuddy that can be used to set your time zone against the time zone you are working in, and are very helpful for this.

Pros-

  • At least minimum wage pay
  • Employee rather than contractor
  • Yearly hiring
  • Lower first week quota to get acclimated
  • Open working hours

Cons-

  • Temporary position
  • Long distance phone capabilities
  • No knowledge of time zone in advance of applying

This to me would be a very fun position to try for if I didn’t have children and dogs.  So, I certainly recommend this position.  Be sure to remember that this has a ticking clock, so be sure to get that resume submitted to lhynes@pi-ei.com.
